I graduated from Loughborough University with a BA in Fine Art and now I am working as a freelance Artist with arts and youth organisations as well as exhibiting and taking on painting and photography commissions. As a photographer and painter the subject matter I have chosen has often been autobiographical while exploring the perception of time and finding different ways to represent it. The fol lowing quotation from Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy has been central to my work in the past and continues to resonate with me: "It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, (protecting its sanity), covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But, it is never gone."
The current subject of my work draws on flora and fauna as inspiration. In particular focusing on creatures with wings, especially birds. This series of work is still being developed and explored and will be on display early 2013. A big part of my painting practice has been the process of dripping, pouring and layering paint, manipulating it in other ways as well as with a paintbrush to create the interwoven painted details and forms. |
