Lauren Clemmet Art

In 2015 I completed a Masters Degree in Children’s book illustration at Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University. Previously I graduated from Loughborough University with a BA in Fine Art.
I work as a freelance Artist/Illustrator with various arts and youth organisations providing workshops as well as exhibiting and taking on commissions.

In the past the subject matter of my work has often been autobiographical while exploring the perception of time and finding different ways to represent it. The following quotation from Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy has been central to my work in the past and continues to resonate with me:

“It has been said, ‘time heals all wounds.’ I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, (protecting its sanity), covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But, it is never gone.”

More recently the subject of my work draws on flora and fauna as inspiration. In 2013 I produced a body of work on Flight which was exhibited at London Luton airport.

I continue to develop my painting, drawing and illustration skills, working on my own storybook projects… Some examples of which can be seen in the illustration section of my website. I’m constantly working to better my skills and ideas to be the best artist I can be.

A big part of my practice has always been the process of making… dripping, pouring and layering paint, manipulating it in other ways as well as with a paintbrush to create the interwoven painted details and forms.
